Audrie cruz 3

  • Name: Audrie Cruz
  • Age: 19
  • Hometown: Bronx, NY
  • Grade Level: College
  • Have you already attended the Prom?

Yes I have.

  • What is your favorite Prom memory?

My favorite memory of Prom would have to be how fun my date made it. He    stood on the dance floor with me all night, and made sure I had nothing less than a great time. Prom will always be a night I will cherish and remember for a lifetime.

  • Did you attend an After-Prom Party?

I did attend After-Prom! Myself, and a small group decided to spend it on a boat. We had food and music played the whole night. We all continued the party, but also had the chance to relax and enjoy the view of the city.

  • What made you try out for this Pageant?

Well ever since i could remember I’ve always had a passion for modeling. I wanted to challenge myself and try something outside of the usual studio work, so i joined and the experiences I’ve had made it all worth it!

  • Do you have a favorite memory from the Pageant?

I do! The first two pageants I joined, I didn’t get the crown, but I was determined to win! By the third pageant I was prepared and i finally won the title. The feeling of finally accomplishing one of your dreams is one of the most amazing feelings in the world. When they called my name as the winner, and I walked the runway for the last time, the first thing that went through my mind was “I did it!.” I can now proudly say I am Miss Teen New York East Coast USA!

  • What advice would you give girls your age on “following their dreams”?

My biggest piece of advice I would give to the girls my age is to never give up on them!! If you have a dream, pursue it! No matter how hard or long it may take to get there, believe in yourself and never let anyone tell you, you can’t.

  • What are some of your go-to beauty products that would be a good recommendation for Prom Night?

Some go-to beauty products I would recommend would be to carry eyeshadow and lip gloss for touch ups, as well as flat shoes. Between prom and after prom, your feet will get tired from wearing heels all night, so matching flats is a must!

Q & A with Miss New York Teen USA 2012, Sabrina Mastrangelo!

3 Apr

We recently had a chance to speak with the 2012 Miss New York Teen USA, Sabrina MastrangeloSabrina is currently a sophomore in Bellmore, NY and hopes in the future to study broadcasting. Her dream career is to become a news anchor, but for now she enjoys participating in her school plays and plans on studying journalism.

Name: Sabrina Mastrangelo
Age: 15
Hometown: Bellmore, NY
Grade Level: Sophomore in high school.

  • Have you already attended the Prom?

No I have not.

  • What are you looking forward to the most?

Definitely looking for a dress!! I think that is the most exciting part! I already have the style in mind: a strapless mermaid dress. Since I am on the shorter side, a mermaid dress looks best on me and will flatter my figure.

  • Do you plan on attending after prom?

Yes I do.  Last year at my high school, the seniors all went to a bounce house after prom. First they changed into their after prom dresses and jumped all night long in inflatable houses! I thought that was a fun idea and hope to do that when I am a senior!

  • What made you try out for this Pageant?

I was never involved in pageants as a child. I always knew I wanted to compete in one, but it never occurred to me I could compete in a teen pageant since they are not usually televised. Once I became aware of the huge pageant world, I entered my first pageant and competed for the Miss New York Teen USA 2011 crown. I placed in the top 20 in my first pageant ever! I then continued and won the Miss Long Island Teen Pageant in August of 2011. After Miss Long Island, I was set to compete for Miss New York Teen 2012 and I won!

  • Do you have a favorite memory from the Pageant?

Definitely winning! I had only competed in two pageants before Miss New York Teen USA so this win is a huge accomplishment to me. Besides winning, meeting all the girls was something I will never forget. We become so close during pageant weekend and consider each other to be “pageant sisters.” If I had to pick one part of the pageant I did not like, it would be missing out on the opportunity to say goodbye to all of my new “sisters.” After I was crowned, I was bombarded with interviewers and photographers wanting pictures, so I was unable to really get to talk to the girls after the show. We all still keep in touch on Facebook though!

  • What advice would you give girls your age on “following their dreams”?

You never know what you can accomplish until you try it. I never in my wildest dreams thought that I could ever be a state queen. I went into my first pageant having no experience and it turned out great! Taking that one risk led me to receive two titles in the past six months! My advice to all girls would be to never give up and give everything a shot! You never know what can happen or what you may fall in love with!

  • What are some of your go-to beauty products that would be a good recommendation for Prom Night?

Well, I actually have an entire Youtube channel dedicated to beauty! You should check it out!

Some of my favorite products are Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer, Benefit’s “They’re Real” Mascara, and Bobbi Brown or Ulta gel eyeliner! All of these are perfect for any pageant or prom night!  Anything Mehron is perfect for stage performances and for that extra dramatic effect.

Fun Facts about Sabrina:

1.      One of Sabrina’s favorite stores is Bebe and BCBG but, for the best shopping experience malls and department stores are the best because they have a little bit of everything!

2.      Along with winning Miss Long Island Teen, she got to train with her pageant director in preparation for the state pageant. One great tip she learned was to pretend there’s a string pulling up your head and you’ll stand taller!

3.      She wants to be an anchor woman/ TV host in the future!

Q & A with Thatiana Diaz, Miss New York Latina 2011!

28 Mar

Name: Thatiana Diaz
Age: 19
Hometown: Bayside, New York

  • Did you attend Prom and an After Prom?

Yes, I did attend prom and an After Prom, which took place at Morocco nightclub in New York City. It was one of the best nights of my life! I wore a white goddess type dress and my date wore a white tux. We took a limo with friends to our prom location, the Grand Hyatt in midtown Manhattan. The venue was awesome and in the heart of New York City so it felt like I was dreaming. I danced the night away with my date and friends, even professors haha. Afterward, we continued our night and we took the limo to Morocco. The music and energy there was great. My friends and I did not want the night to end!

  • We know you have been crowned Miss Teen USA 2010, Miss NY Latina 2011, and a Top 10 at Miss Dominican Republic US, but what have you been up to since winning your titles?

Since winning my titles, I have been busy as a student at Pace University. I am currently a sophomore majoring in Communication Studies. I am also an intern for Seventeen Magazine. I’m not done with pageants just yet; I’m preparing myself for a comeback at a future Miss New York USA Pageant!

I love everything about it but what I like best is making girls dreams come true. I am an assistant to the bookings editor and one of my duties is to contact real girls who have been chosen to model for the magazine. I can’t explain the excitement and screams I have heard from the girls I have called. It’s a great feeling to make someone’s day like that.

  • What would your advice be for the Class of 2012?

My advice for the Class of 2012 would have to be: don’t grow up to0 fast. When you are 16 you want to be 18, when you are 18 you want to be 21, and when your 21 you want to finish your education. Slow down! Enjoy your age and enjoy every minute you have of your life. You don’t get to relive your prom, graduation, and the days after again so live it to the fullest!

  • Tell us about some of your favorite hobbies, pastimes, or charitable organizations you’re involved with.

My favorite hobbies/pastimes include pageantry, reading, creative writing, and networking. With my love to network, I have worked with charitable organizations such as Same Sky, The Wounded Warriors Project, and The Children’s Aid Society.

  • Age: 17
  • Grade Level: 12th grade (Martin Luther High School in Maspeth New York)

  • Where did you grow up?

I grew up and was raised in Colombia, at the age of 9 I came to live here in New York City the city of my dreams!

  • Who are your top recording artists right now?

Although I don’t have a favorite artist, I enjoy listening to Adele’s music.  I think anyone can relate to any of her songs, every lyric has a very powerful meaning.

  • What are you looking forward to the most for Prom Night?

I am looking forward to making unforgettable memories. It will be the last night I will be spending with friends that have been part of my daily life for four years and that I might not be able to see as often when we graduate, so I’m looking forward to having a great time, laughs and joy that night.

  • What are your future plans?

I plan on attending college and majoring in International Business. As I pursue my career I also plan to continue with modeling and hope to travel a lot.

  • What made you try out for this Pageant?

I’ve always enjoyed modeling. After graduating from Barbizon school of Acting and Modeling, I was even more fascinated with it especially with the encouragement of my friends and family so I began to dedicate more time and effort into photo shoots. Although I had no idea what it was like to be in a pageant, when my friend told me about the Miss New York Latina pageant, I loved the thought of being able to represent my heritage and decided to go for it.

  • Do you have a favorite memory from the Pageant?

Yes, apart from the unforgettable friendships I made with the other contestants, I will never forget the moment they announced me as the new Miss Teen NY Latina. I will not forget the look in my mother’s face nor will I forget how much my friends cheered for me, they all lost their voices. It was one of the most magical moments of my life. Throughout my reign I have learned so much and experienced so many things I never imagined doing, and all of this has mainly taught me to always take advantage of any opportunity that comes in your way because you never know how wonderful it can turn out to be.

  • What advice would you give girls your age on “following their dreams?”

My parents always told me that mental strength will always trump physical power.  It took me a while to realize this but when you work hard and think positive, good things will always go your way, and this is my advice to every girl out there that has ever felt hopeless at some point in their lives. There will be days when you feel like your life  is falling apart or that you are not getting anywhere but trust me there is always HOPE and, as long as you believe you can achieve something–with all of your heart it will happen. I’ve always lived by this quote by my favorite author Paulo Coelho:  “When you really want something, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it” and it gives me a lot of motivation. It is amazing what you can do when you try…trust me!

Q & A with MTV Host, Lenay Dunn!

We recently had a chance to speak with the MTV’s 10 on Top Host, Lenay Dunn! This African native enjoys jogging, laser tag and can speak Spanish! She currently lives in Nashville, Tennessee and come to New York 3 days a week for MTV! Read more to learn about the fabulous life of Lenay Dunn!

Name:  Lenay Dunn
Occupation:  MTV host (I host the show ’10 on Top’, Saturdays 11:30am EST)
Hometown:  I was born in the Congo, Africa.  But I grew up most of my life in Fridley, Minnesota.
Website:  www.LenayDunn.com
Twitter: www.twitter.com/LenayDunn

·         Did you attend the Prom?  I did!  I think I went to a total of 5 proms in high school, 2 at my own school (Fridley High School), and 3 at my friends’ schools.  I liked prom so much I’d call my friends from other schools and ask them to find me dates at their schools so I could go to prom again lol.  My favorite dress I ever wore to a prom was pink and sparkly.  I attached some pics.  I think the dress is actually still at my parents house in a closet somewhere.  That was my first prom ever in 11th grade, with my first boyfriend Jake.

·         What did you learn in High School that prepared you for your career today?   I went to public school in Fridley, MN.  & it was awesome!!  (I went to a few private schools’ proms though.. the boys were cute.)  I took a lot of theatre classes and art classes at my high school though.  I was in a lot of the school plays in middle school and then in high-school I read the morning announcements broadcasted over the classroom TV’s in the morning.  So I think I learned how to run around on camera a bit.  I also played ice hockey & was on the swim/track team.  Which has nothing to do with this interview, or with my job today, but it was still fun! xo

·         What are you working on these days?  Besides hosting the countdown show ’10 on Top’ on MTV (Saturdays 11:30am EST), I was just picked up by Macy’s to be their brand American Rag’s official ‘it girl’, which is very exciting & fun!  I get to blog about fashion & music, be the face of their brand, and go to all the summer music festivals to interview bands.

·         What is your favorite part about being a host on MTV? lots of things… getting to live half in New York  (I live in Nashville and fly to NYC 3 days a week to host the show), the team of people who work on the show are super awesome, and I get an office in Times Square (which is more like a giant closet since I keep lots of clothes and shoes in it ha)

·         What would your advice be for the Class of 2012?   Have fun!  You are about to graduate and you have SO much adventure ahead of you, just have fun with it – you only live once.  That and tweet me.  That’s the best advice of 2012.  Be my twitter friend.  @lenaydunn.

·         Tell us about some of your favorite hobbies, pastimes.  I like jogging, watching cat videos on the internet, making funny videos with my friends & putting them on youtube.. I also like speaking Spanish (I originally went to college to be a Spanish teacher), playing road hockey with neighborhood kids, & baking sugar cookies.

Q&A with Wendi Liu, a Miss New York Teen Contestant!

21 Feb

  • Name: Wendi Liu
  • ·Age:18
  • Grade Level: Freshman in College
  • Have you already attended the Prom?

   Yes

  • What is your favorite memory?

My favorite memory would have to be celebrating 4 years of friendship, love, and support. Although it was the end of high school, my crew and I still stay in contact. It was a night of fun and laughter, an unforgettable night!

  • Did you attend an After-Prom?

I did go to After-Prom at Crimson. I absolutely love the after party, it was a night of never-ending fun. More memories were created and that calls for the loads of camera time… snap snap snap!

  •  What made you try out for this Pageant?

I received multiple mails from Miss Teen USA & one day I just said “I’m going to try out for this, why not? It’s once in a lifetime opportunity” and I was right. I also wanted to built more confidence and discover who I am as a young lady.

  •  Do you have a favorite memory from the Pageant?

I have so many favorite memories from the pageant but I would have to say is the bonding experience. The girls there were super nice and lay back. They are so supportive and willing to offer help anytime. I thought it was going to be awkward because I didn’t know anyone but the vibe in the atmosphere made me feel comfortable.

  • What advice would you give girls your age on “following their dreams”?

Don’t let anyone tell you “You can’t” Keep chasing your dreams until you achieve it. I know sometimes we have bad days and it seems like were just running after something that’s completely out of our limits but that is the process of chasing your dreams. Keep your head high up in the game and always be motivated!

  • What are some of your go-to beauty products that would be a good recommendation for Prom Night?

During my high school years I didn’t wear that much make up simply because I didn’t know how to. However, after being exposed to the modeling industry and signing with Ikon Model Management I slowly learned from make up artists. I would definitely go with Nars Cosmetics, there more on the natural side but also have  bold and edgy effects. You can mix and match, play with the colors and you’ll be surprise at the results.
